Just as expected, Samsung today announced the Galaxy Tab S at its Galaxy Premiere 2014 event in New York. The tablets are available in two variants differentiated by the screen size, and both happen to be the first tablets in the company’s portfolio to flaunt a Super AMOLED display and a fingerprint scanner.

As far as specifications are concerned, both the devices are nearly identical, except for the screen size and the size of the battery. The bigger tablet features a 7,900mAh battery, while the smaller of the two has a 4,900mAh battery included.

As mentioned above, one of the talking points on this tablet is the Super AMOLED display, which is the first time Samsung has included such a display on its tablet. This display has a WQXGA resolution (2560×1600 pixels) that translates into 288ppi for the 10.5-inch variant and 359ppi for the 8.4-inch variant.

Depending upon the market, the tablets are either powered by a 1.3GHz Exynos 5 octa-core chipset (quad-core 1.9GHz Cortex-A15 cores and quad-core 1.3GHz Cortex-A7 cores) or 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 quad-core chipset. Both the processors are paired with 3GB of RAM.

On the photography front, it has an 8-megapixel rear camera that has the ability to record videos at 1080p, and on the front a 2.1-megapixel snapper. Other features include 16/32GB of internal storage that can be expanded up to 128GB using a microSD card.

The tablets run on the latest Android 4.4.2 KitKat, wrapped under Samsung’s Magazine UI. It also comes preloaded with apps like Milk Audio, Papergarden, Samsung WatchON and Sidesync 3.0 among others. The last feature is similar to Apple’s Continuity feature on iOS 8, wherein you will be able to pick up calls on the tablet itself while synced with your Samsung smartphone.

In terms of design, at 6.6mm thickness, this tablet also happens to be the slimmest in Samsung’s portfolio. Speaking of firsts, as mentioned above, the Home button on both the tablets is also a fingerprint scanner similar to what was introduced on the Galaxy S5 smartphone.

The tablets will be available in select markets from June 26 onwards and prices start at $399 (Rs 23,600 approximately) for the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 and $499 (Rs 29,500 approximately) for the Galaxy Tab S 10.5.

Google planning on launching a 8.9-inch Nexus Tablet

Following on from the widely successful Nexus 7, Google is said to be launching a 8.9-inch Nexus Tablet and it's said to be a high-performance device but will also carry an associated higher price tag.

"Volume production is expected to start in July or August. The expectation is [that] this will be a lower volume product, carrying a premium price tag to support the specifications,"

The pricing of the rumoured 8.9-inch Nexus Tablet is said to start at $299 and should appear in the middle part of 2014.

Samsung Confirms KitKat for U.S. Smartphones and Tablets

DALLAS, February 18, 2014 – Samsung Telecommunications America (Samsung Mobile) announced today that a number of Samsung Galaxy® devices will receive the Android 4.4.2 (KitKat) software update, enriching the Galaxy experience.

The upgrade provides a number of innovative, easy-to-use features that enhance the user experience, including a more intuitive user interface, enhanced messaging capabilities and updated applications:

• Location Menu: An integrated location menu enables users to easily activate GPS, Wi-Fi and mobile networks, while simultaneously checking the battery usage of apps running location service capabilities.

Samsung to makebig screen smartphones and tablets with new touch, display tech

Samsung's latest earnings result ended the south korean company's dream run at quaterly profits, and the company attributed slowing global smartphones sales among other reasons. However, the company has revealed its plans to strengthen its big screen smartphones portfolio comprising 5-inch to 6-inch displays, apart from also concentrating on tablets.

 ZDNet Korea in a report has cited Samsung's executive director Hyunjoon Kim, who has claimed that the South Korean major has been a leader in big screen market, ever since launching the first Galaxy Note phablet in 2011. The current claims of Samsung's executive go in-line with the company's plans for coming years which including smartphones with displays bearing pixel densities of 560ppi and 4k resolutions in November last year.

The report further suggests that Samsung is planning to offer differentiated displays to its consumers and also improve its existing S pen and Multi-window features.

The alleged Galaxy Note 3 Neo was purportedly leaked in renders recently. The leaked press renders of the rumoured Galaxy Note 3 Neo showed the device's front and rear panel, which were reminiscent of the Galaxy Note 3 phablet. The new leaked renders seemingly confirmed that the alleged Galaxy Note 3 Neo would sport a faux-leather rear cover.

Notably, Samsung's operating profit tumbled almost a fifth in the fourth quarter, due to a one-off bonus and slowing sales of company's high-end smartphones, marking the company's first quarterly profit decline in two years.

GALAXY PRO TABLETS COMING UP IN EARLY 2014

Samsung is going to target the tablet market by launching new Galaxy Pro tablets in early 2014.

The Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 (SM-T320/T325), Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 (SM-T520/T525), Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 (SM-P900/P905), and the Galaxy Tab 3 Lite (SM-T110/T111). All of these will come in Wi-Fi and LTE models.

The Tab 3 will be the first to surface, arriving during the second week of January, according to SamMobile's source. The 8.4 and 12.2 versions will reach consumers around the second week of February, followed by the 10.1 model the following week. Though the release dates may change slightly, all four tablets should hit the market before March, said SamMobile.

Samsung reportedly working on 8-inch and 10-inch AMOLED tablets

Recently , at an analyst meet in south korea , JK shin , president and CEO of IT and mobile Communications at Samsung had revealed that company would renew its focus on tablets. Following the strategy , it seems , the South Korean manufacturer is gearing up to introduce its new tablet featuring 8-inch and 10-inch AMOLED displays.

Korean publication Naver claims that Samsung would start mass producing AMOLED displays in8-inch and 10-inch sizes in early 2014. Further, the site speculates that Samsung might launch one of the two models (8-inch and 10-inch) alongside the 2014 flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S5 early next year.

Notably, Samsung has been using LCD display for its mid-range Galaxy Tab 3 range, while it uses AMOLED display in the high-end tablets. Considering that Samsung has been using AMOLED in its premiun range of tablet, we could assume that the alleged tablets with 8-inch and 10-inch AMOLED displays would be priced accordingly .

Samsung has also been rumoured to be working on a tablet sporting a 12.2-inch display, and recently the alleged Galaxy Note 12.2 was spotted at the FCC.

Rumoured specifications of the alleged Galaxy Note 12.2 tablet include, well a 12.2-inch display boasting a resolution of 2560 by 1600 pixels , a quad-core 2.3GHz snapdragon 800 processor, and 3GB of RAM

Also said to be on-board the Galaxy Note 12.2 tablet is 32GB of inbuilt storage, and an 8-megapixel rear camera alongside a 2-megapixel front-facing camera.The rumoured tablet said to run Android 4.3 jelly Bean out-of-box.

Samsung has also been rumoured to be developing a 13.3-inch tablet that dual boots Android and Windows RT.

Coming to the comparison:

Display:  

Well coming to the display both the Tabs sports a 7 inch TFT display with 1024x600 resolution with 170dPi.
In Galaxy Tab 2 the display is pretty well and also mostly clear all the times and also a smooth response.
Galaxy Tab 3 has the same display and resolution but it is found that display of Tab 3 is quite better than Tab 2.

Processor:

Galaxy Tab 2 comes with a Ti-Omap 4430 dual core processor clocked at 1GHz paired with 1GB RAM,where as the Tab 3 comes with a Cortex A-9 Dual-Core processor clocked at 1.2GHz paired with 1GB RAM.Comparing the two tabs in the processing section there is no difference was found both have quite same performance.

GPU:

Galaxy Tab 2 comes with Power vr SGX 540 GPU which is an medium level Graphics can handle most of the games which are downloaded outside the playstore and also within the store.

Memory:

Both the devices are paired with 1GB ram and also available with the internal memories with 8/16/32 GB storage and also expandable upto 32 GB where as Tab 3 is expandable upto 64GB which is good capacity.So there is no difference in this but only the expandable slot of Tab 3 is 64GB.

Build: Coming to the build section samsung has totally reduced the size and also the weight of the new generation Tab 3. Tab 3 is well built just like the S4 structure and weighs less than the Tab 2.
Tab 3 can be easily held into the hands comfortably where as Tab 2 is slightly big and also weighs more and need to held with two hands for some people while calling.

OS:

Both the devices run on the Android 4.1.2 but recently Samsung released 4.2.2 for Galaxy Tab 2 and yet there is no info about Tab 3 upgrade but both the devices will end on 4.2.2 as per the news as they have only Dual core processors clocked at 1.2GHz and 1 GHz.

Final conclusion:

Concluding Tab 3 and Tab 2 are mostly quite similar to each other but in some cases they differ like the GPU and mainly the price.There is only about Rs.3000 difference in the price.But now you can choose yourself deciding which to be taken.

Tab 2 with 3G and wifi is priced at RS.14000 (250USD) and the wifi only version os priced at RS.10000 (180 USD)
Tab 3 with 3G and wifi is priced at RS.17000 (290USD) and there is no wifi version released or available.

It was launched for about RS.16000 (280$) in the Indian market.

Design

The Xperia Z is a gorgeous piece of equipment. Its sleek, slim design lends it a sophistication few others can offer on their devices. Its 10.1-inch LED backlit LCD display is of course its most striking feature, though even when the screen is off, the slate ooze class with its minimalist design and neat lines. With a thickness of just 6.9mm and a weight of only 495g, Sony certainly has a winner as far as design goes.

Sony has maintained the tablet's minimalist feel by grouping a number of its connectivity ports on the left hand edge of the slate and covering them with flaps. These flaps merge into the rest of the machine, since they sport the same high-gloss charcoal black finish as the rest of the tablet's surround. The power button stands out with its machined aluminium.

The port flaps do more than simply add to the tablets style though, for along with a bunch of other specs, they have helped the Xperia Z to earn a IPX5/7 certification. The waterproof slate can remain in clear water up to three feet deep for 30 minutes.

Sony has intelligently positioned the tablet's speakers on the left and the right edges as well. They are thus not obscured when one holds the device and uses it on one's lap.

Display

The Xperia Tablet Z's Full HD backlit LCD screen is one of the best in the business, backed as it is by Sony's Mobile Bravia Engine. It packs in a resolution of 1200 x 1920 pixels and a pixel density of 224ppi.

The tablet boasts of some beautiful imagery and colour reproduction. Images on the slate are sharp, defined and detailed, with blacks being deep and other colours vibrant. Watching videos on the device is a delight thanks to its wider aspect ratio that makes movies appear just as they were intended.

Viewing angles on the slate are certainly worth writing home about also, although its scratch-resistant shatterproof glass is very shiny and in direct sunlight quite reflective. The tablet is a magnet for finger prints too.

Samsung has just started Android 4.2.2 update for the Wi-Fi version of the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 bearing model number GT-P3110. This is following the Android 4.2. 2 roll-out for the 3G version of the tablet. 

The Android 4.2.2 with build number XXDMH1 is currently available for the users in the UK. The update is rolling out is phases and expected to reach other regions soon. It will be available in both Over-The-air (OTA) update and via Samsung Kies PC suit software.

Galaxy Tab users, who cannot wait for the update to reach their region and wish to install the official firmware manually, may follow our step-by-step guide. The XXDMH1 is an unbranded version of firmware and can be installed on any P3110 units (unlocked version).

  Note: It should be noted that those who have rooted their tablets or running on custom ROM, or in a country where the update is not available currently, will have to wipe date before installing firmware.

Per-requisites

1) Install USB Drivers for Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 on the computer to connect the Android device with computer.

2) Enable USB Debugging Mode on the tablet to connect it with the computer and use Android SDK with it. [Press Menu>> Settings>> Applications. From there navigate and click on Development option and check the USB Debugging Mode.]  

3) As the tutorial is likely to wipe all data of the tablet, create a backup. If the device is having any custom recoveries such as ClockworkMod/TWRP already installed then backup all the data using the recovery. 

4) Ensure the battery of the Galaxy tablet is having charge above 80%.

5) The tablet should be factory unlocked and not locked to a particular carrier.

6) The device will no longer belong to a rooted version once official firmware is installed. 

7) The tablet will lose custom firmware with the installation of official build. Additionally, it will lose custom recovery which will be replaced by stock recovery.  

8) XXDMH1 Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean works only with the Wi-Fi version of Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 GT-P3110.  As flashing this on any incorrect variant might brick the device, verify the model number of the Galaxy device by navigating to Settings>> About tablet>> Model number.  

Steps to install XXDMH1 Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean on Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 P3110

Step-1: Download XXDMH1 Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean official update for Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 to the computer

Step-2: Extract the downloaded firmware zip using winrar/7zip/winzip or any other extracting tool to get a file with .tar.md5 extension with some other files  

Step-3: Download Odin v3.07. Extract the Odin zip to get Odin3 v3.07.exeand few other files 

Step-4: Turn off the Galaxy tablet and wait for about five to six seconds for vibration to confirm complete power off

Step-5: Boot the Galaxy Tab into Download Mode by pressing and holdingVolume Down and Power buttons together until a construction Android robot appears on the screen of the tablet. Now press the Volume Up button to continue to enter into Download Mode

Step-6: Run Odin3 v3.07.exe on the computer as an administrator [To do so right-click on Odin.exe file then click on Run as administrator]   

Step-7: Connect the tablet to the computer using USB cable while it is in the Download Mode. Wait for some time until Odin detects the device. When the tablet is connected to the computer successfully, an Added message will appear under Odin message box. Also, the ID:COM box in Odin will turn blue with the COM port number indicating successful connection 

Note: If the Added message does not come then try another USB port, try the one located at the back side of the computer. In case Odin still fails to recognise the device then re-install USB driver.   

Step-8: Now select these files extracted from P3110XXDMH1 folder to install on the tablet

a) Click the PDA button and select the file with .tar.md5 extension  

b) Click the Phone button and select file with MODEM in its name

c) Click the CSC button and select file with CSC in its name

d) Click the PIT button and select the .pit file

Note: Ignore the last three steps (b, c and d) in case such files are not found.

Step-9: Configure Odin settings. Ensure the Auto Reboot and F.Reset Timecheckboxes are selected. Uncheck the Re-Partition option and select only when a .pit file is being used

Step-10: Double check everything and hit the Start button in Odin. The installation process should begin now and would take few minutes to complete

Step-11: Once the installation process is completed, the tablet will restart automatically. And soon a PASS message with green background will appear in the extreme left box at the very top of Odin. Unplug the USB cable from the tablet to disconnect it from the computer  

The Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 P3110 should now be updated with XXDMH1 Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean official update. To verify the new software version running on the device, head over to Settings>> About tablet.

How to fix bootloop issue:

If the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 gets stuck at boot animation or Samsung logo (after step-11) then go to recovery mode by pressing and holding Volume Up andPower buttons together. In the recovery mode, perform data wiping task by selecting wipe data/factory reset then select Wipe Cache Partition. When the wiping task is done, reboot the tablet by selecting reboot system now. In recovery mode, use the Volume buttons to navigate between options andPower button to select the desired option. It should be noted that performing data wiping task will erase the internal memory data of the device.
