Lumia 530 with Windows Phone 8.1 goes on sale at roughly Rs: 6,000/-

Microsoft latest budget Windows Phone 8.1 handset, the Lumia 530, has finally gone on sale- first becoming available in China, priced at CNY 599 .

Engadget China reports that the Lumia 530 is now available at leading online retailers as well as physical stores in the country. Microsoft, while announcing Lumia 530 last month, had revealed that the handset will be rolled-out in select markets starting August.

The Lumia 530 was launched alongside its dual-SIM variant, Lumia 530 Dual SIM. Both the handsets come with identical specifications, except that the latter supports dual-SIM functionality. Suggest pricing by Microsoft was EUR 85 before taxes and subsidies.

Unfortunately, there is no official word from Microsoft when the handset will be reaching other markets, including India. Notably, the official 530 Dual SIM, hinting that we might only see the dual-SIM variant in India-and soon.

The new Lumia handset runs Windows phone 8.1 with Lumia Cyna update and supports firmware over the air (FOTA) updates. The Lumia 530 will be available in Bright Orange, Bright Green, Dark Grey and White colour variants. Further, the Lumia 530 sports changeable rear shells.

The Lumia 530 comes with 4-inch FWVGA (480 by 854 pixels) LCD display that offers a pixel density of 246ppi. It is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 alongside fixed focus rear camera and also comes preloaded with digital camera add-ons such as Bing vision, Nokia Camera, and Nokia Glam Me.

The new lumia samrtphone includes 4GB of inbuilt storage which is further expandable up to 128GB via microsoft card. The lumia 530, much like other lumia handsets , comes with 15GB free OneDrive cloud storage space. THe smartphonesmeasures. 119.7 by 62.3 by 11.mm and weighs 128 grams.

The Lumia 530 packs a 1430mAh battery which is rated to deliver up to 10hours of talk time and up to 528 hours of standby tim. The smartphone comes with GPRS/EDGE, 3G, Wi-Fi (802.11/b/g/n),Bluetooth (4.0), GPS and Micro-USB connectivity options.

Notably, both the Lumia 530 and Lumia 530 Dual SIM support Micro-SIM cards.

After unveiling the Nokia X+ handset in India, Microsoft-owned Nokia has now announced the TD-LTE enabled Lumia 636 and Lumia 638 smartphones in China. TD-LTE is Time-Division Duplex LTE, one of two LTE standards (the other being Frequency-Division LTE) and the one supported by Chinese telecom operators.

It has been noted that while the Lumia 636 (Seen above) is set for China Unicom network carrier, the Lumia 638 (Seen below) is headed for China Mobile.Both handsets are priced at CNY 1,299 (roughly Rs. 12,400) and will hit the shelves on 21 June (Lumia 638) and 5 July (Lumia 636). The Lumia 638 is being currently showcased in the on-going Mobile Asia Expo in Shanghai. Both handsets will be available in matte Black, White, Orange and Yellow colour variants. It is not yet clear whether the handsets feature dual-SIM support or not.

Based on the popular Nokia Lumia 630 (Review | Pictures) handset, which was launched during the Microsoft Build 2014 event in April, the Lumia 636 and Lumia 638 have almost identical specifications, but feature 1GB of RAM instead of 512MB on the Lumia 630. Notably, the LTE-capable Lumia 635 was also launched at the same event.

What we think about Microsoft Security Essentials Virus protection

Microsoft Security Essentials has been around for some time under a different name OneCare and Microsoft did drop it at one point but I always suspected that they would bring it back once they had solved all its little problems as it's not like Microsoft to just drop out of the market. It's of great debate to how effective it really is, I think Microsoft have got it right, simple clean interface little involvement from the end user and very little impact on performance of the computer.

However I don't think it's 100% there yet but who better to combat viruses designed to destroy your Windows operating system than Microsoft. In my opinion it is one of the better free virus protection programs available and it's even free to small businesses with less than 10 users however it makes more sense for enterprise businesses to have MacAfee or Norton with subscription based costs.

We have tested Microsoft Security Essentials Virus Protection  on one of our computers and found it to be an effective virus solution for the home and small business and it detected and cleaned the common viruses, bots and malware with no problem also it didn't flag a single clean file as malicious and we had nothing to complain about with rootkit detection.

I've always said the most hungry resource programs are Outlook, ITunes and Firewalls, most of the popular Virus programs come with Firewall protection, why? When Windows firewall does a good job for the home user.

I think Microsoft Security Essentials Virus Protection is one to keep an eye on and can only see good things from it as Microsoft develop it even further, now with Microsoft Security Essentials and Windows 7 together it is five times less vunerable to Malware infection than previous editions. I just hope Microsoft don't spoil it by deciding to make even more profit by charging for it at different levels and versions like they have Windows.

Microsoft reportedly pocketing a cool $2 billion per year in Android royalties

While it's struggling to make in roads into the league of leading smartphone platforms with Windows Phone,

Microsoft is earining good money through rival platform Android, if a new report is to be believed.

According to a new note by Rick Sherlund, an analyst with the firm Nomura , Microsoft is 
generating $2 billion per year in revenue from Android patent royalties, as noted by Business Insider .

The analyst believes that the Android revenue has a 95 % margin, large chunk of the profit . He adds that the money helps in making the cash Microsoft is burning on Xbox and windows phone products as the company reports the Android royalty payments under revenue and operating losses of entertainment and Devices segment (that includes Xbox and windows phone ). If the Android royalty is removed from the particular segment, it would reflect losses on account of Xbox, skype and windows phone. 

It's worth pointing out that Microsoft has signed patent deals with Android OEMS like LG ,samsung, HTC and Acer for their Android and chrome OS based products . Vendors who sign deals with the redmond gaint pay and undisclosed licensing fee for using its patents, as Android and chrome OS allegedly infringe on them .

Some estimates suggest taht Microsoft could be earning anywhere between $1 to $8 per Android device. According to Gartner, Microsoft could generate about $430 million in 2013 from these royalties.

Nokia Lumia 525 appears in leaked press render

Nokia's alleged successor to the popular Lumia 520, the Lumia 525 aka Glee, has appeared in a leaked press render that shows off its design.

The render was leaked on Facebook, courtesy of @evleaks, and exhibits a traditional Lumia design. The leaked render shows the alleged Lumia 525 sporting a sleeker profile than the Nokia Lumia 520and also suggests that the smartphone would come in three colour variants - Red, White and Yellow. The render also reveals that the alleged Lumia 525 will not come with flash accompanying the rear camera, just like the Lumia 520. Unfortunately, there is no word on the availability of the device, yet.

Earlier this week, we were greeted with leaked specifications and images of the alleged Nokia Lumia 525. The leaked image of the Nokia Lumia 525 showed off the front panel of the alleged device which seemed identical to the Lumia 520.

In the previous leak, the specifications of the alleged Lumia 525 were revealed to include a 4-inch WVGA (480x800 pixels) IPS LCD display; a 1GHz dual-core Snapdragon 400 processor; 1GB of RAM; 8GB of inbuilt storage with support for microSD card up to 64GB; a 1430mAh battery and a 5-megapixel autofocus rear camera. Further, the leaked specifications claimed that the device would run Windows Phone 8; sport dimensions of 119.9x64x9.9mm, and weigh about 124 grams. Connectivity options on the device are expected to include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, AGPS, GPS, 3G and Micro-USB.

The major difference between the Lumia 520 and the rumoured Lumia 525 seemed to be that the latter comes with 1GB of RAM. The report also noted that the Nokia Lumia 525 will come bundled with the rumoured Nokia Guru aka BH-121 Bluetooth stereo headset.

Windows surface 2 and surface pro 2 tablets are now avalable.

The Nokia Lumia 2520 isn't the only high-profile Windows tablet launching today. As promised, Microsoft has released the Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 in the US and 20 other countries at respective starting prices of $449 and $899. A handful of accessories are also available alongside the slates, including the backlit Touch Cover 2 and Type Cover 2 keyboards ($120 and $130), a Wireless Adapter for Typing Covers ($60) and the Arc Touch Mouse Surface Edition ($70). The Docking Station and Power Cover aren't expected to ship until early 2014, when they'll cost $200 each; the USB car charger arrives at the same time for $50. Most other countries will have to go Surface-free for the time being, although Microsoft will ship its new Surface models to mainland China in early November.

NOKIA lumia 1520 release date and specifications .

Nokia will be going all out with its first phablet, it seems, as leaked Lumia 1520 specs today show that the company is throwing the kitchen sink of what it is capable to produce in mass quantities at the moment. It will be the best-equipped Windows Phone ever, and the one that will introduce the wonders of quad-core processors and Full HD displays to the platform for the first time. Let's recap what we've heard on the hush-hush so far about the Nokia Lumia 1520.

Design

First off, we should be getting a 152 x 81 x 8.7 mm handset, which are pretty good dimensions for a 6-incher, and the weight is clocked at 160g for the exclusive AT&T version, while the global release will weigh a tad more at 168g, as it will have a wireless charging coil built in. We've seen the phone leaked in black, red and yellow already, but more colors might be in store for it down the road. UPDATE: The phone also leaked in a cyan render, but whether or not this will stay just a render we'll find out for sure come October 22.

Nokia has allegedly added a microSD card slot for storage expansions, which is a good idea for a big screen phone, on which you are likely to keep many videos for watching on the go, plus the phone's PureView camera will entice to make footage of your own more often than usual. As for the SIM card, it will likely be of the nano SIM type, judging also from the piece on one of the leaked photos of the handset in the slideshow below.

Specs

Screen resolution of the 6" display will be expectedly 1080x1920 pixels Full HD, or 367pi pixel density at your disposal. The rumored screen technology is raising some eyebrows, as the leaked specs say it will be an AMOLED display, and Full HD versions of those are likely only done by Samsung for now, so Nokia might have made a strange bedfellow here. 

It is also to carry a PureMotion HD+ technology, which, coupled with Nokia's ClearBlack filter tech, means we will have a bright screen with excellent contrast and reflectivity ratios, great viewing angles, vivid colors and ultra fast refresh rates.

                      

The processor that will be running the whole show is expected to be a quad-core Snapdragon 800, clocked at the respectable 2 GHz, which would make the Lumia 1520 the most powerful Windows Phone ever, coupled with its 2 GB of RAM. Sources are claiming also a 64 GB variant, which seems unlikely if we are going to get a microSD slot as well, but the 32 GB version is totally plausible. 

A beefy 3400 mAh battery is pegged to keep the Windows Phone 8.1 lights on, which is on the high side, even for a phablet, and should allow for a pretty good endurance, especially in terms of talk time and video playback. As any self-respecting smartphone with Snapdragon 800 chipset, the phone is likely to support most 4G/LTE networks you can think of, too.

20.7 MP PureView camera

We've arrived to the exclusive part of Nokia's first phablet, namely the rumored 20.7 MP camera with Carl Zeiss lens, improved Panorama and optical image stabilization. These specs alone should make it the best camera on a phablet, but since the sensor is a scaled down version of the 41 MP monster in the Lumia 1020, it will also offer 1.8x lossless zoom in stills mode, and 4x for HD video capture. 

The maximum usable resolution is expected to be 18 MP in 4:3 aspect ratio, meaning we will be getting an oval sensor like in the 1020 flagship. The dual capture mode means you will be getting 5 MP images in automatic mode with the pixel-binning technology that combines the information of four or more pixels into a "perfect" one. There will be also a full 16 MP mode for the ultimate detail capture. 

The Nokia Camera app is said to come with improved saturation settings, meaning we will have some exclusives on the software side of things with the phone as well. Last but not least, the Lumia 1520 is listed to arrive with not one or two but four HAAC microphones, meaning that we might have a winner in the sound recording aspect not only among phablets, but smartphones in general, too.

Price and release date

The Lumia 1520 phablet is expected to become official on October 22 at Nokia World in Abu Dhabi, and Nokia is already teasing it with new Glance Background screenshots that show 15:20 as the hour. The AT&T exclusive for the company's first phablet is to start the clock in the second week of November, while global availability is scheduled for the beginning of December. Pricing? That 6" Full HD AMOLED, the quad-core Snapdragon and the 20 MP PureView camera with lossless zoom and OIS are unlikely to come cheap. The phone is expected to command a premium phablet price of $299.99 on an AT&T contract, while costing the flagship-worthy $699.99 without carrier subsidies, which is said to be the global version tag as well.
