The HTC M8 will be the first handset running on Android skinned with the new HTC Sense 6.0 user interface, according to @evleaks. The notorious leaker known for having a spot-on track record has spilled the beans about the M8, but the information is obviously not confirmed officially, so take this with the usual grain of salt. Still, it makes sense for HTC to update its skin with the release of what might be the company's next big thing.
The HTC M8 is obviously a codename, but what does it stand for? We know that the HTC One carried the HTC M7 moniker, so it’s only logical to assume the M8 will be HTC’s flagship phone for 2014. This is also not the first time we hear about the existence of an HTC M8 device. This past summer, first details about HTC working on an M8 prototype surfaced from Pocket-lint.
At the same time, details remain scant and we have not seen any images that would draw at least a partial picture of the M8. Knowing that HTC follows a yearly release cycle for its flagships, we would expect the HTC M8 arrive between March and April of 2014, so it’s clearly way too early for more substantial leaks. What this seems to suggest, though, is that HTC has indeed picked Android to power its next flagship. This is not surprising, but it's interesting since we've heard that Microsoft has been courting HTC to use Windows Phone on its top-shelf devices. If this leak is true, those talks seem to have not resulted in a flagship device.
