Micromax Canvas Turbo A250 Review

Micromax has intensely begun offering up newer flagships in the Indian market, with the latest being the Micromax Canvas Turbo A250. The Canvas Turbo A250 gained a lot of hype thanks to the company’s new global brand ambassador Hugh Jackman. But does this phone justify the Rs.19900 price point with the kind of hardware and features it has? Lets find out in our review.

Build Quality and Hardware

The first thing that comes to mind when you pick up the Canvas turbo is that it looks like a Nexus from the front and an HTC phone from the back. The phone took its styling cues from the Canvas 4, and blended-in some Canvas Doodle 2 and voila the Canvas Turbo. Contrary to popular belief this is not a all metal phone, it has a plastic bezel and a plastic main frame, it does have a aluminum back panel which covers a non replaceable battery pack of 2000 mAh.

The front features a 5 inch 1920x1080p display, however the first full HD phone from Micromax does not do justice to the colors on the LCD and they seem slightly subdued. On the inside is a   Mediatek 6589T Chipset which has a 1.5 GHz Quad Core CPU along with a PowerVR SGXT GPU. Storage is limited to a 16GB inbuilt which would relieve about 13GB to the user. You do get 2 GB of RAM which is one of the most redeeming features of the phone. 

The main camera is a 13 MP snapper with vivid capture capabilities (see camera section), the Canvas Turbo also has a secondary front facing camera of 5MP. Both cameras capture 1920 x1080p video at 30 fps. 

The handset has been nicely styled with just the logo at the back as the brand placement and no obscene branding on the phone. We do wish they didn’t need to slap on a 13 MP branding on the back, to sort of re instate that the phone has a large megapixel snapper. A subtle led notification adds to the aesthetics as its not “in-your-face” bright and not too dull, it resides next to the front facing camera. 

Display and Multimedia

The phone features a 5 inch display with a full HD resolution, although the phone has been a first for the company its not the first 1920 x 1080p resolution display in the

market and certainly not one in this price bracket. We have seen some great displays, and although the Canvas Turbo has a nice display it lacks the color depth and viewing angles we have come to expect from IPS displays. 

The GPU on the inside is a fairly powerful unit, but the 1920 x 1080p display takes a massive toll on it and results in a mediocre output. Nenamark 2 scores were a disappointing 33fps which intern means that most games would run at lower graphics.
