One million units PlayStation 4's were sold out within 24 hours.

The PlayStation 4 released last week, and it’s already vanished from the shelves. In the first 24 hours alone, the console sold through its entire initial shipment of 1 million units, making it the biggest console launch in American history.

Sony Computer Entertainment President and Group CEO Andrew House proclaimed the console to be a great success and issued a statement on the enormous launch.

“PS4 was designed with an unwavering commitment to gamers, and we are thrilled that consumer reaction has been so phenomenal. Sales remain very strong in North America, and we expect continued enthusiasm as we launch the PlayStation 4 in Europe and Latin America on November 29. We are extremely grateful for the passion of PlayStation fans and thank them for their continued support.”

The biggest console launch of all time now belongs to Sony. Granted, in this day and age of technology, launches are highly publicized and statistics are followed much more closely, this information matters much more than a decade ago. Despite that, it’s still a very impressive figure and title to put on your belt buckle.

Microsoft will launch the Xbox One this week, so we will see how the two compared after the first 24 hours by next week
