January 29th, 2014 – Top Kickstarter
entrepreneur, who’s earlier campaign exceeded its goal by 2000%, launches its
next Able-HD Kickstarter campaign, aiming to re-imagine the computing
experience of tomorrow. The startup is building on its hugely successful 2013
Kickstarter campaign, with a second fundraising drive aimed at updating and
improving the revolutionary Able-HD mobile high definition monitor.
Lightweight and paper-thin, the Able-HD
Plus monitor allows users to take the experience and enhanced productivity of a
multi-monitor system with them wherever they go. With a 15 or 17-inch 1080p HD
display, the Able-HD Plus weighs around 2 pounds, is less than a third as thick
as a standard HD monitor and fits easily in a backpack or briefcase.
A multi-port, detachable adapter board
is compatible with laptops, smartphones, Xbox game consoles, Ouya, Pi, Kano and
other devices, and comes complete with Audio in/out, HDMI, VGA, and DVI plugs.
New synthetic polymer casing and rubber edging prevents damage to the monitor
and adapter, while a thermoplastic acrylic screen gives the strongest, clearest
resolution without sacrificing the Able-HD Plus’ streamlined design or burdening
it with extra weight. With a constantly updating DIY design and
industry-topping price, this patent-pending technology is poised to
revolutionize people operate on-the-go.
“The Able-HD Plus is going to open up a
whole new world of possibilities for productivity and enjoyment, both for
people who already like working with multi-screen systems and people who have
never considered it before,” said Nell Harton, Founder and CEO of the Able-HD
startup. “Everyone carries their computers with them in one form or another.
Now they can carry their screens, too.”
Last year, Able-HD turned to
Kickstarter and the online public in the hopes of realizing a simple and
revolutionary vision: creating a truly mobile high-quality LED monitor. The
resulting campaign raised almost 2,000% of its original goal, bringing in an
astonishing $99,720 from 759 donors and securing it a place in Kickstarter’s 50
Most Successful Campaigns of the Year, based on their funding goal.
Now, the team behind the Able-HD Basic
is heading back to Kickstarter, with new ideas to build on what they started
with their original groundbreaking design and address the issues they
identified after their first product launch.
Says Mr. Harton. “Now the Able-HD Plus
is stronger, clearer and even more reduced in terms of design. And we, as a
company, decided to stick with the DIY design, which makes upgrading the
Able-HD system simple and inexpensive, and gives our customers the confidence
that we are going to keep pressing forward and pushing the limits of our
imaginations.”
While the original system was
necessarily fragile, explained Harton, due to construction costs, the Able-HD
Plus comes equipped with a synthetic polymer casing for both the monitor and
adapter board. The “Able-Case” and “Able Board” are light and durable, with
rubber edges to protect against use damage. And the new thermoplastic acrylic
screen is almost as clear as glass, only lighter and three-times stronger.
Additionally, the system’s revolutionary S-Split design is the first to allow a
monitor to be detached from its digital signal adapter, making it easier than
ever and safe to transport the Able-HD Plus. The Able Board, moreover,
functions as a stand for the monitor, so no additional parts are necessary.
“We knew we had to make the system
stronger,” said Harton, “but we took the opportunity to rethink the entire
system design, and wound up making some changes that are both innovative and
highly functional.”
Whereas most LED monitors only have VGA
and HDMI ports, and others offer only USB hookups that drain CPU memory, the
Able-HD Plus comes fully compatible with virtually any device, including Macs,
PCs, smartphones and gaming consoles.
That flexibility, according to Harton,
allows for the wide range of users Able-HD envisions for its products, as
reflected in early publicity in Geek, which said the Able-HD Basic allows users
to be productive, even outside the “ideal environment[s] for [their] ideal
workflow,” and Gamezone, which said the Able-HD “could revolutionize online LAN
parties forever.”
“The Able-HD Plus is for gamers looking
to play with their friends and for workers who want more productivity on the
move. It’s for people who might have considered using a second screen, for
visibility or productivity or both, but have never done so because of how
clumsy it is to rely on. It’s for people who have never thought about using a
second screen, but will once they realize how easy and beneficial it can be.”
According to a recent Microsoft study,
using a second screen increases workplace effectiveness by as much as 50%. An
HD display, meanwhile, allows for 70% more visibility.
“Even ignoring the practical benefits,
having a large, HD display on the go is a visually pleasing luxury. And at the
price we are asking for, it’s hard to even call it a luxury.” Pre-ordering the
Able-HD Plus costs as low as $187, below asking price for many bulkier,
immobile LED displays.
With a new, stronger package and
streamlined design, the Able-HD Plus is the first fully compatible mobile HD
LED monitor on the market. And at an affordable “early bird” price, the system
is poised to revolutionize the way people think about their mobile computing
experience.
